Jan Carel Diehl M.Sc. (1969) after finishing his study in Industrial Design Engineering he worked several years as consultant in Ecodesign. In his present position he is assistant professor for the Design for Sustainability (DfS) program at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands.
Within the DfS program he is managing the international projects on sustainable product innovation especially in emerging markets. The main focus of his research is the know-how transfer and implementation of sustainable product innovation into an international context. He is has been working with industries (like Philips, Whirlpool, Bosch-Siemens) and universities (like in the USA, India, and Indonesia) in the field of sustainable product innovation in about 30 countries world-wide. Next to his position at the TU Delft he is consultant for UNIDO and UNEP and invited lecturer at universities in amongst others Portugal, Colombia and Austria. He is co-author of the new to be published UNEP Design for Sustainability (D4S) manual for Developing Economies (D4S EE).
